Food safety, storage and handling

How to store dried food properly, how long it keeps, and when to throw it away.

Template content — review before launch. This page was installed with the demonstration data. Replace it with wording that matches how your business actually operates, and have anything with legal or regulatory effect checked before you publish it.

Storing dried food

Dried food keeps because the water has been removed. Anything that lets moisture back in shortens its life.

  • Keep the pouch tightly sealed between uses.
  • Store cool and dark — a cupboard away from the stove is ideal.
  • Use a dry spoon. A wet spoon is the most common way a pouch spoils.
  • Do not decant into a damp jar.
  • Refrigeration is not needed, and in humid weather a fridge can actually introduce condensation.

How long it keeps

Each pouch carries a best-before date and a batch number. Use the printed date, not a general rule of thumb.

Best-before is about quality — colour, aroma and texture — rather than an instant safety cliff. That said, we do not sell past the printed date, and we do not recommend you use food past it either.

Signs you should discard a pouch

Throw the contents away if you see any of the following:

  • Visible mould, or a musty or fermented smell.
  • Clumping that has turned sticky or wet.
  • Insect activity.
  • A pouch that has been punctured or left open in humid conditions.

When in doubt, throw it out. Dried food is inexpensive; an upset stomach is not.

Rehydrating

Most vegetables need 10–20 minutes in warm water. Fruit softens in about 20 minutes, or you can add it dry to anything with liquid in it and let it rehydrate as it cooks.

Use clean drinking water, and do not leave food soaking at room temperature for hours — refrigerate it if you need to soak for longer.

Allergens

Our products are prepared in a kitchen that also handles tree nuts and sesame. We declare the ingredients of each product on its page and on its label. If you have a severe allergy, please contact us before ordering so we can tell you honestly whether we can meet your requirement.

Regulatory information

Food businesses in Sindh are subject to the requirements of the Sindh Food Authority, including registration, labelling and premises requirements. The store owner is responsible for confirming and meeting the requirements that apply to this business. No registration, certification or laboratory testing is claimed anywhere on this site unless it is published explicitly, with its reference, by the owner.
